I was wanting a new picture for my living room and saw a beautiful picture on Pinterest, but I wanted to tweak it to be my own. I also needed to fill a larger space then what one painting could fill.
What you need!
1- (24"x36") canvas
2- (10"x20") canvas
Paint
Paint brushes
7 or more kinds of fabric or paper (I purchased 1/4 yard each)
Mod Podge
Pattern for petals
Rotary Cutter (optional)
Cutting Mat (optional)
How it's Made!
First I painted my canvases a solid color. I used leftover paint from painting a wall in the same room. Tip - If you don't have an easel, just like me, you can lay down an opened up garbage bag. That way you can throw it away when you are done.
While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I started cutting out my petals. Here is the pattern that I printed out and used. Petal pattern I used about 100, but cut out more so I could play with my layout.
The next part is the fun part for me. Playing with the different layouts. Here are a few different ones that I tried out.
Then I found the one that I liked, and went with it.
Here is where I got stuck and and wasn't sure what I was going to do with the side two canvases. While talking to my sister-in-law about my project, she mentioned having the flower continue out. I loved the idea.
In order to keep my flower going out, without loosing my focus, I laid out petals between the canvases. So I could see where they would should be placed on the outer two canvases.
Once I had all my petals placed where I wanted them. I started to Mod Podge them to my canvas. First I put Mod Podge on the back of my fabric and then placed it back on the canvas. After it was placed and I smoothed out all the bubbles, I then did another layer of Mod Podge on top of the petal. Notice I wrapped the petals over the sides of the canvas.
After the Mod Podged petals dried, I then did a full coat of Mod Podge over the whole canvas.
While doing my layer of Mod Podge, I realized that I liked my picture better upside down from what I originally planed. That is one of the things I think is fabulous about doing your own creations. You get to just play with it! After it is dry, hang and enjoy!
